Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology are expected to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of significant facts, theories, and issues within the domain of psychology;
  • demonstrate critical thinking skills and knowledge of significant facts, theories, and issues in considering the relationship between Christianity and psychology;
  • display the critical thinking skills and research skills necessary to interpret and contribute to current psychological research;
  • apply spiritual and ethical principles to promoting the welfare of others; and
  • be prepared for employment or graduate studies in fields that are related to psychology.

Psychology BS Requirements


Specified Core Curriculum


Students earning a bachelor’s degree must complete all Core Curriculum  requirements. The following specific core curriculum course(s) is required.

Concentrations


Choose at least one 12-hour concentration (a minimum of 4 courses from 8 possible).

Courses may not be applied to multiple (or more than one) concentration. 

Specialized


Minimum of 12-16 credit hours approved in advance by the student’s academic advisor and the Division Chair.

Electives


In addition to core curriculum (40-44 credit hours) and major course requirements, students must complete elective coursework appropriate to their degree.  Elective courses may be selected from courses listed in any of the concentrations for the psychology major.  However, duplicate credit is not permitted, in that, courses completed to fulfill the 12-hour concentration requirement will not be counted as elective credit too.  

A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for most bachelor’s degrees, including elective coursework.
