MUSC 1043 Musicianship II 3 credits Continued development of skills begun in MUSC 1033 . The second semester expands diatonic harmonic vocabulary and deepens the study of voice leading and phrase structure. Topics include all diatonic seventh chords, non-chord tones, secondary dominants and leading-tone chords, modulation to closely related keys, and binary and ternary forms. Aural skills advance to include compound meters, more complex rhythms, diatonic modulation recognition, and multi-part melodic and harmonic dictation. Emphasis is placed on connecting written theory with aural comprehension and real musical examples. Prerequisite: MUSC 1033 or passed challenge exam.
