MUSC 1043 Musicianship II

Continued development of skills begun in MUSC 1033. The second semester expands diatonic harmonic vocabulary and deepens the study of voice leading and phrase structure. Topics include all diatonic seventh chords, non-chord tones, secondary dominants and leading-tone chords, modulation to closely related keys, and binary and ternary forms. Aural skills advance to include compound meters, more complex rhythms, diatonic modulation recognition, and multi-part melodic and harmonic dictation. Emphasis is placed on connecting written theory with aural comprehension and real musical examples. Prerequisite: MUSC 1033 or passed challenge exam.
