MUSC 1002 Fundamentals of Music 2 credits An introduction to the essential elements of music theory for beginning music students or non-majors. Topics include notation, pitch and rhythm, scales and key signatures, intervals, chords, and basic harmonic function. Students will also develop aural skills through sight-singing, rhythmic reading, and ear training exercises. This course builds a strong foundation for further music study, emphasizing both written and listening skills to develop musical literacy and understanding. No prior music training is required. This course is intended for students who want basic music theory and music majors who do not meet entering standards for MUSC 1033 .
