Learning Outcomes

Students completing the on-campus Bachelor of Science (BS) in Human Services are expected to:

  1. Evaluate and Synthesize Human Services Knowledge: Analyze and integrate significant facts, theories, and issues within the human services field. Apply a Christian worldview to promote ethical, informed decision-making and compassionate leadership. 

  1. Embrace and Advocate for Multicultural Competence: Evaluate and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes that demonstrate a profound understanding of and respect for diverse cultural perspectives. Foster inclusion and Christ-like compassion in professional practice. 

  1. Exhibit Advanced Critical Thinking and Research Skills: Critically assess and contribute to contemporary human services practices through evidence-based research, innovative problem-solving, and ethical discernment, all informed by Christian principles. 

  1. Apply Principles of Case Management: Design and implement client-centered care plans by utilizing foundational and advanced case management techniques. Emphasize empathy, service, and the inherent dignity of every individual as a reflection of being created in the image of God. 

  1. Demonstrate Readiness for Professional and Academic Advancement: Synthesize academic knowledge and practical skills to transition seamlessly into human services careers or graduate studies. Serve others with excellence, humility, and a commitment to lifelong learning, guided by a Christian ethos. 

 

Human Services BS Requirements


Specified General Education Course


Students earning a bachelor’s degree must complete all Core Curriculum  requirements. The following specific core curriculum course(s) is required.

Emphases


Students have an option of choosing one or multiple emphases. Courses in each emphasis need to be unique. Duplicate course credit will not be applied amount emphases. Completion of emphasis courses requires a minimum grade of C-. Subject to availabilty of courses.

Child, Youth, and Family Services (6 Credit Hours)


Mental Health and Wellness (6 Credit Hours)


Community Development and Nonprofit Leadership (6 Credit Hours)


Electives


In addition to core curriculum (40-44 credit hours) and major course requirements, students must complete elective coursework appropriate to their degree. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for the Bachelor of Science in Human Services, including elective coursework. Students are strongly encouraged to work with their advisor to identify courses that complement their program area.
