PSYC 2713 Counseling Theory and Practice

3 credits
An in-depth exploration of major counseling theories and their application in professional practice. Students will examine foundational approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy, among others. The course emphasizes the integration of theory with practical counseling skills, such as active listening, empathy, assessment, and intervention strategies. Key topics include ethical considerations, multicultural competence, therapeutic relationships, case conceptualization, and evidence-based practices.
