SOSC 2513 Study of the Family 3 credits An examination of the structure, dynamics, and functions of families across cultures and historical periods. Students will explore how families influence individual development, relationships, and society, as well as how factors such as culture, economics, and policy shape family life. Key topics include family systems theory, parenting styles, marriage and divorce, child development, communication patterns, work-family balance, and the impact of social change on family structures. The course also addresses contemporary issues such as single-parent households, blended families, and domestic violence.
