CLEP and DSST Instructions

All Students:

CLEP score recipient code: 5896
DSST score recipient code: 8135

The Office of Academic Records must receive the student’s official score report or transcript directly from CLEP or DSST to evaulate possible transfer credit.  Copies submitted by the student are not official and cannot be accepted to award transfer credit.

SWU assesses a $50 fee to the student for each passing score on examinations that are accepted by SWU for transfer credit.

Students should discuss their intent to complete a CLEP or DSST examination and its applicability to the students’ degree program with their academic advisor or academic coordinator BEFORE registering for the exam.

SWU is not a testing center, and students must make their own arrangements to test at a CLEP or DSST testing center and must attain the minimum credit granting score (no exceptions are made) to earn the credits and/or SWU course equivalencies.

A maximum of 68 credit hours will be awarded to a student in any combination of the following:  CLEP, DSST, AP credit, military credit and departmental exams.

Graduating Students:

Students completing exams to meet final graduation requirements should complete the examination at least six (6) weeks prior to the anticipated graduation ceremony in order to allow time for official score reports to be received and evaluated.

American Council on Education (ACE) recognition:

The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for all CLEP and DSST examinations in order to help students earn academic credit for formal training accomplished outside of traditional degree programs.  Southern Wesleyan University recognizes ACE standards and recommendations for evaluating and accepting CLEP and DSST examination credit as transfer credit.
